Five thoughts on Bayern's devouring of Hamburger SV

Bayern showed their firepower in a clinical display of power and quality against Hamburger SV for another rout off the dinosaurs.

Fiery start

Bayern started the game in a fiery way, attacking from the get-go. Good pressure on Hamburg’s defence ended with Franck Ribéry scoring. Bayern pressed and harassed Hamburg. The Bavarians looked in control and played at extremely high tempo. Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba attacked at every chance. Every buildup looked to bust Hamburg’s net. This was one of the finest and most electrifying starts made by Bayern this season.

Lethal Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski was simply on the song. He was fighting for the balls, winning headers. He ran channels very well. This hat-trick was very well taken. A great jumping header to meet a tasty Joshua Kimmich’s cross was a particular highlight. Robert’s second was simply beautiful, A trademark Jérôme Boateng long ball, controlled by Alaba. No. 27 sent in an amazing cross which Robert converted. Lewy missed the first penalty awarded, blasting it wide but he redeemed with a perfectly placed penalty.

Shaky Vidal

Arturo Vidal had a pretty poor game. The Chilean pitbull picked up a yellow card very early, which forced him to play with extra cautiousness. He could not get into the game, losing most of the duels he was involved in. He was rightfully taken off for Corentin Tolisso in the second half. Overall a poor game from the Chilean midfield general.

Hunger to humiliate

Bayern looked hungry for a Hamburger since the very first second of the match. This was probably the best team performance since the start of Rückrunde. David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich attacked with vigour. Franck Ribéry put in his best performance of the season, with his second being one of the goals of the season. A splendid solo run with a thunderous finish. Robben scored, which involved beautiful buildup with Tolisso.

Improving performances

After the lethargic draw at home against Hertha Berlin, Bayern has picked up the pace with great performances against both Freiburg and Hamburg. This is a pleasant and happy return to dominance for Bayern as the triple talks gain momentum. Underperforming players stepped up to the plate with a thumping performance. Bayern can clinch the Bundesliga next week with a victory against RB Leipzig, provided other results go in their favour.
