Friday’s Bayern Express has the latest injury updates ahead of Bayern Munich’s Saturday evening game in Dortmund. Elsewhere, the club takes part in the Telekom Cup 2017.
Arjen Robben is out of tomorrow’s Bundesliga match in Dortmund due to injury. This was confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti on his pre-match press conference on Friday. “He still has minor problems”, the Italian noted.
Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa look doubtful as well, in particular the Chilean. Vidal posted the following picture on his social media channels instead. His caption: “Recovering forces! To play again as soon as possible!”
Ancelotti underlines that he will not “take any risks.” Both players are tired after their respective South America trips and World Cup qualifiers. Additionally, Javi Martínez did not make it in time either and will be out.
In the meantime, Franck Ribéry “is ready” to play. He completed the final training session without any further issues and is likely going to start the game on his left wing.
When searching for a term describing the team’s mindset, careful optimism could be the right choice. After already having won the Supercup in the Signal Iduna Park this season (2:0), Ancelotti wants a repetition. However, the coach knows the challenge will be a harder one: “Tomorrow will be a different game. We have to give it 100 percent or we cannot win.”
Captain Philipp Lahm agrees: “In the Supercup we saw how narrow it is, we need a top performance. The team is warned. It is an important game. Football Germany is looking forward to a high quality match; the best two teams of recent years are facing each other. You are anticipating it as a player and as a fan.”
Manuel Neuer also chimed in on the clash between Dortmund and Bayern: “Dortmund is our opponent number one, especially in terms of the German championship. It would be very important not to lose. In training, you can feel that everyone gives it their all and wants to play. The games in the past were always narrow and we are awaiting a hot dance in Dortmund.”
Borussia Dortmund will be without Marco Reus, who apparently had trouble with his shoes during the week. He is joined on the sidelines by Sebastian Rode, Sven Bender, Erik Durm and likely Raphaël Guerreiro.
Bayern take part in Telekom Cup
Die Roten are taking part in the Telekom Cup 2017. The tournament takes place in Düsseldorf on January 14 next year. This mean that the Telekom Cup is scheduled inside the winter break for the first time. Considering their sponsor, Bayern are a regular participant. They won the cup in 2013 and 2014.
The schedule is out already and Bayern open the tournament against the hosts Fortuna Düsseldorf at 15:00 CET. An hour and 15 minutes later, FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach compete in the second semifinal. Third place game and final will be played later on the same day. Each match is 45 minutes long.
