Bayern unable to get past Hoffenheim in equitable 1:1

Bayern missed out on a late victory in a hard fought draw against Hoffenheim, drawing 1:1. Despite the Bavarians inability to score, the draw still sees the top of the table.

First half: fighting come-back

Bayern had a tough start to the game against a very active and aggressive Hoffenheim, but it was the Bavarians who got the first shot in (7’). Robben cut in from the right and found Lewandowski at the edge of the box, who completed the one-two and set up the Dutchman’s shot from 20 yards out, that went sailing well over the goal.

Despite taking charge of the match little by little the Reds were caught on the counter and went down a goal early on (16’). A low cross found Demirbay wide open just inside the box in a perfect position for a first touch shot that went screaming into the top right corner of Neuer’s goal.

Hoffenheim’s goal served only to anger Bayern, that further increased the pressure up the field. Costa had his hard shot from outside of the box deflected by Baumann straight to Thiago’s feet. He was only able to softly roll the ball back into the hands of the diving keeper (20’).

Another goal bound chance was caught by Baumann, as Costa’s cross into the six yard box that, where Lewandowski was waiting to tap the ball in for an easy goal (31’).

The pressure was too much as a rushing Robben set up Costa on the left for a strong low cross, that a sliding Zuber sent into the back of his own net, right through Baumann’s legs (34’).

The Bavarians kept the pressure up, with Robben taking a free kick from a dangerous position, but to no avail as the half ended 1:1.

Second half: searching for the winner

With the start of the second half Bayern looked keen to keep up the pressure in search of their second goal. It did not take long for the first charge on Baumann’s goal as Costa tested him with a shot to the near post (48’). Again, minutes later, they tried with a pretentious and acrobatic shot following a free kick that ended up hitting Lewandowski.

Hoffenheim slowly, but surely gave up on their offensive runs in order to defend the oncoming red waves. Robben dribbled everything in his wake on the left and crossed in to Lewandowski just in front of goal (67’). The Pole prefered to flick the ball with his heel to the far post where Thiago looked set to score but for Zuber’s last ditch deflection.

The match settled into a rhythm as Bayern sat high up the field and pushed for a winning goal, while Hoffenheim looked to break on counterattacks. Chances on both sides, but none of great significance.

Bayern came close to a winning goal as Müller set up Hummels inside the box, but Bayern’s defender hit the post (88’). Müller missed a huge chance (92’) as he send the ball wide from the top of the 6 yard box, effectively ending the match.
