Bayern duplicate their 3:1 win against Augsburg

Bayern easily replicated their 3:1 victory from the Pokal against the same unfortunate Augsburg. Robben and Lewandowski were Bayern’s main men as they scored and set each other up for all of the Reds goals.

First Half: dominating with ease

Bayern had a relaxed start to the match, easily out passing their counterparts in search of spaces. On the other side of the pitch a densely packed Augsburg set up deep and forced FCB’s players into offside positions, all while waiting for counter attacking opportunities.
First to get a strike in (5’) was Augsburg’s Verhaegh with a bouncing long range effort that Neuer was unable to hold, but it was cleared out of danger by Martinez.
Die Roten responded by increasing the pressure and playing the entire width of the pitch in order to stretch the tightly packed Augsburg defence and create more spaces. Despite dominating possession chances failed to materialise until Augsburg opened up following one of their few attacking endeavours. A fast counter (19’) allowed Robben to charge down the right, cut into the middle and then set up Lewandowski for a goal chipped just past Hitz’s shoulder from close range.
Augsburg’s defence fell apart again minutes later (21’) as Robben and Lewandowski had their way. This time around it was Lewandowski who set up the Dutchman for an easy goal from just six yards out, following a poor clearance by Verhaegh.
Two goals up and with the opposition unable to break out of their own half, Bayern took their foot off the gas a bit. Still, Robben and Lewandowski created yet another great opportunity, as the Dutchman set up Lewy with a well placed cross, for a header that went inches wide (37’).
The half ended with Bayern cruising to an easy victory.

Second Half: relaxed control

With the second half under way Bayern went up three goals as Robben and Lewandowski were at it again (48’). Robben picked up a loose ball and found the Pole with a through pass before he dribbled past a defender and the keeper to shoot from an angel into the open net.
It was clear that Robben and Lewandowski were the ones pulling the strings on the day as the Dutchman set up Lewy with a penetrating pass. But the Pole was unable to get his shot past Hitz from a tight angle.
With things looking all but wrapped up Bayern payed the price for substituting both central defenders and slowing play down. Unable to clear the ball left Koo wide open for Baier’s set up and scored from close range (67’).
Bayern responded by taking control of the game again and almost scored (81’) as Lahm’s low shot from the edge of the box trickled just wide.
In the end, it was too late for Augsburg and Bayern strolled to victory.

1:0 Lewandowski (19’)
